Two perspectives. One story.
Jerome's perspective
We met on Facebook, at a time when I was living in the British Virgin Islands and Mike was living in Annemasse, in France. One day, his profile appeared as a friend suggestion on my Facebook page, so I added him.
We started exchanging messages from time to time, very sporadically. Sometimes, when I was coming back to France, I would write to him and say that I was visiting, that I was living in the BVI, and that it would be great to meet. Mike would always reply that it would be great, and that I should let him know once I was there.
This went on for a few years, but nothing really happened. Then, in October 2019, I moved to Switzerland. Covid followed shortly after, and sometime later, we got back in touch again and decided that we would finally meet.
In September, I left Zurich to go to France for my sister's birthday. Mike and I met for a drink in Annemasse. We went out, it was easy, natural, and great. The next day, I invited him to join us canyoning with my family for my sister's birthday. We went with both my sisters and my sister's boyfriend, and it turned out to be such a special moment.
From then on, we kept seeing each other very regularly. Mike was about to move out of the apartment he shared with roommates, and I was living alone in Zurich. He came, moved in, and never left again. That was more than five years ago, and the reason we are here today.
Mike's perspective
I remember very clearly the day Jerome added me on Facebook. At the time, he was living in the British Virgin Islands, and I was in Annemasse. We didn't know each other, but his message came naturally, without any pressure.
For a long time, our conversations remained occasional. Every now and then, he would write when he was coming back to France, saying it would be nice to meet. I always replied that yes, of course, and that he should let me know when he was there. But every time he came, I wasn't available.
Then time passed. Jerome moved to Switzerland in October 2019, Covid arrived, and after that strange period, we got back in touch. This time, something was different. We decided that the moment was right.
In September, when he came to France for his sister's birthday, we met for a drink in Annemasse. We clicked immediately. The next day, he invited me to go canyoning with his family. Sharing that moment with them, right from the beginning, made everything feel even more natural.
After that, everything fell into place naturally. I needed to move out of the apartment I shared with roommates, and Jerome was living alone in Zurich. I came over… and I never left. It's now been more than five years.
And that's how it all began.
